Joseph Kony - one of world's worst war criminals

"Right now, there are more people on Facebook than there were on the planet 200 years ago."

And so begins a powerful short film on a man.

A man called Joseph Kony.

You may not have heard of him yet... but in the coming days, you will.

Set aside some time to watch this. Now:

Joseph Kony is the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Africa. He started out in Uganda before moving to bordering countries.

Joseph trains child-soldiers. And he kills children who won’t or can't be turned to follow his lead.

He maims them and orders them to kill others by putting guns and weapons in their hands.

So far, he has abducted and turned over 65,000 children (some say that figure is actually above 100,000).

Astonishingly, he is responsible for running more than two million people out of their homes and their land.

Why on earth hasn't a man like this been stopped?

The organisation called Invisible Children are trying.

At the helm of this is filmmaker and co-founder Jason Russell, who shot this short documentary about Joseph Kony.

He says:

"KONY 2012 IS A FILM AND CAMPAIGN BY INVISIBLE CHILDREN THAT AIMS TO MAKE JOSEPH KONY FAMOUS, NOT TO CELEBRATE HIM, BUT TO RAISE SUPPORT FOR HIS ARREST AND SET A PRECEDENT FOR INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE."

An excellent example of using social media for good, not evil... and to get the message across the globe using this most modern of communication and awareness tools.
